BBG GROUP
COMPOSITE-PRESS
Electric composite press for manufacturing aircraft interior components
We developed and supplied an electric composite press for a leading US aerospace manufacturer to produce lightweight aircraft interior components. The customized system features an electric drive, tilting platens and flexible process control.
The project began with a collaboration between our US subsidiary, BBG North America LP, and the aerospace manufacturer. At our technical center in Oxford, Michigan, we worked with the customer to produce initial composite prototype parts. Based on these results, we received an order for a pilot production system, including the required molds.

- Energy efficiency: Power consumption is matched to actual operating requirements.
- High dynamics: Fast and precise movements enable short positioning and travel times.
- Low maintenance: Reduced maintenance requirements compared to hydraulic systems.
- Low noise level: The electric drive ensures particularly quiet operation.
Tiltung platens for efficient material and part handling
The composite press is specifically designed to meet the requirements of manufacturing aircraft interior components.
The 2,200 × 1,500 mm platens can be tilted independently. The lower platen tilts up to 27°, while the upper platen tilts up to 75°. This allows the molds to be positioned ergonomically for the respective operations, facilitating material placement, part handling and removal after pressing.
Integrated pneumatic roller rails support mold changes and facilitate the positioning of heavy molds

Easy Control 2.0 for flexible production processes
The press is operated using our Easy Control 2.0 control interface. It provides a clear overview of machine functions and supports operators in setting up and monitoring production processes.
Process parameters and movement sequences can be adjusted via the user interface without requiring PLC programming knowledge.
This provides the basis for reproducible manufacturing processes and a high level of process reliability.
International collaboration - from tooling and press systems to automation
We engineered and manufactured the electric composite press at our headquarters in Mindelheim, Germany. Mold development and manufacturing were carried out by BBG North America in Oxford, Michigan.
Since delivering the press, we have further expanded our collaboration with the US aerospace manufacturer. We have developed and supplied additional customized molds, handling equipment and end-of-arm tooling (EOATs) for industrial robots.
These components support composite part manufacturing and handling, demonstrating the scope of BBG's capabilities – from tooling and press systems to customized automation solutions.
With locations in Germany and North America, we can coordinate engineering, manufacturing and automation activities across our facilities while providing local customer support.
