Refurbish
Mold carrier systems completely overhauled and "gestretcht"
For some time now, our customers have been increasingly focusing on adapting existing machines to new requirements instead of investing in new equipment. A particular challenge in this context was the “stretching” of two mold carrier systems that had already been in use for several years.
The customer's requirements were clearly defined: enlargement of the mold clamping plates from 1500 × 1100 mm to 2200 × 1400 mm – and at the same time a higher maximum permissible load. In addition, the customer requested the modernization of the machine control system.
Economic efficiency and feasibility precisely examined in advance
Before loosening the first screws, we conducted a thorough feasibility study to determine which components of the existing machines could continue to be used, which could be reinforced or modified, and which would need to be replaced.
At the same time, we examined whether refurbishment made economic sense compared to purchasing new equipment.
Until the actual dismantling of the system, the question of how far theory and practice diverge remained exciting, as a complete assessment of the condition of the system was not possible in advance.
Theory meets practice – the result is impressive
When dismantling the two mold carrier systems, the previously assumed condition was confirmed: the wear was as expected, and there were no unpleasant surprises. All components that could be reused were thoroughly cleaned, reconditioned, and reinstalled in the systems. This made it possible to implement the planned expansion measures quickly. In order to maintain good ergonomics on the mold carriers despite the lower mold clamping plates, the swivel angle of the upper mold clamping plate was extended on both machines.
After completion of the work, the modernized mold carrier systems had to undergo the same intensive functional and stress tests that our new machines undergo before delivery.
Advantages for operators: resource-efficient, economical, and quickly available
Refurbishing used machines offers our customers several clear advantages:
- Significantly lower investment costs compared to a new purchase.
- Short delivery times, as existing systems continue to be used.
- Maximum resource efficiency through the reuse of many components, which is also a plus in terms of sustainability.
- Modernization in line with the latest technology, including adjustments for changed production requirements.
- High system availability, as refurbished systems undergo the same rigorous testing as new machines.
Refurbishment as an economical alternative for many industries
The successful overhaul, including the stretching of the two mold carrier systems, shows that refurbishment is particularly worthwhile where robust basic machines are available and production requirements have changed over the years - for example, due to new materials, larger components, or increased quality requirements.
BBG offers a clearly structured process consisting of analysis, evaluation, modernization, and final acceptance. Customers thus benefit from an economical, sustainable, and technically first-class solution.
