Rethinking glass encapsulation - vertiPoUR sets new standards

With vertiPoUR, we have developed a completely new solution for encapsulating glass with polyurethane. The process is based on a centuries-old principle – casting from the bottom up – which we have now applied to the encapsulation of large glass panels.

From 1980s glass sunroofs to today’s smart panoramic roofs

In the 1980s, the first glass sunroofs were introduced. To connect the mechanics with the glass, manufacturers already relied on polyurethane encapsulation. The process worked reliably – but as the size and complexity of glass roof elements in vehicles increased, the original mold carriers with fixed, horizontally arranged clamping plates reached their limits. Additional swivel and shuttle movements brought the necessary improvements, but at the same time made the machines larger, more complex, and more expensive. Yet more is not always better – which is why we rethought the process from the ground up, focusing on the key challenges our customers face.

Customer needs in focus

Our customers expect concrete solutions for the following challenges:

  • Compact machines for optimal use of production space
  • Short cycle times without unnecessary auxiliary movements
  • Easy access for cleaning, insert placement and part removal
  • Efficient use of material and energy

The Solution: vertiPoUR

We therefore rethought the process from the ground up. The idea: to carry out the encapsulation not horizontally, but vertically. Initial flow simulations confirmed the potential, and trials in our pilot shop brought certainty. The production of test glases demonstrated that vertical processing not only works, but even delivers better results than the conventional horizontal method. The test results were so convincing that we developed a horizontally opening mold carrier system. This compact system enables the implementation of vertiPoUR in industrial series production – and offers decisive advantages for our customers..

The advantages at a glance

  • Very compact mold carrier systems requiring only a single movement (horizontal opening/closing)
  • Perfect accessibility for feeding and removal systems
  • Improved ergonomics for manual work
  • Optimized venting at the highest point of the mold
  • Reduced material usage and energy requirements
  • Lower investment costs

vertiPoUR – The next generation of glass encapsulation

vertiPoUR is a pioneering step towards more efficient, compact and future-oriented production solutions. The process combines centuries-old casting principles with modern polyurethane processing – opening up new perspectives for customers in the economical manufacturing of glass modules.
