BBG Group
Tool Technology PUR / Glass

BBG is one of the world's leading suppliers of tooling technology for encapsulating glass panes with polyurethane (PUR). In this process, glass panes are functionally and visually enhanced with a precisely applied PUR edge or PUR surround. A particularly high-quality impression is created by the so-called flush design, in which the glass and polyurethane are flush with each other and the transition is virtually invisible.
Protection, function, and design in one step
The PUR edge fulfills several technical and functional tasks:
- Protection of sensitive glass edges against mechanical damage—e.g., during transport, installation, or due to vibration while driving.
- Improving the fit, compensating for glass waviness, and providing better sealing against water and dirt.
- Acting as a buffer between the glass and adjacent components, which improves NVH properties (noise, vibration, harshness).
Integration of additional functions
In addition to the glass pane, other functional elements can also be cast in during a single manufacturing step. This allows plastic or metal brackets, connection and control elements, reinforcing elements, and electrical components to be integrated into the glass pane with a precise fit and accurate positioning.
The combination of glass, sensor technology, and PUR opens up numerous possibilities for the functionalization of vehicle windows and other applications in the glass sector. This results in multifunctional components with a high degree of integration.
Experience and diversity in glass finishing
BBG has been instrumental in the further development of this technology since the early days of glass casting with PUR. Our expertise covers the processing of a wide range of glass sizes and types, including vehicle glazing made from impact-resistant plastic:
- Single-pane safety glass (ESG)
- Laminated safety glass (VSG)
- Gorilla® Glass
- Smart glass with integrated technology (e.g., photovoltaics, LED, head-up displays, privacy functions)
- Evacuated or gas-filled multi-pane glazing
- and more
Glass finishing with PUR is a key component of our success. With decades of experience and an eye for detail, we support customers from established and new industries in successfully using this versatile technology—for example, in the automotive industry, window and facade construction, and the photovoltaic industry.
Sophisticated tool technology – precise and reliable
Our tools for glass finishing with polyurethane are made from high-quality aluminum or tool steel, depending on requirements. The choice of material is usually based on the required output quantity and is made in close consultation with our customers.
The tools are designed for operation in a mold carrier system. This system opens, closes, and locks during the reaction time and controls all tool functions – electrically, pneumatically, or hydraulically. Most of our customers opt for electric tool heating. On request, we are also happy to implement water or oil heating systems.
Our range extends from simple molds with mechanical inserts to highly complex systems with:
- integrated sensors and monitoring functions,
- data acquisition for traceability, even when the glass has long since been installed in the vehicle,
- effective sealing and venting systems that support efficient use of materials and top component quality.
As a technology partner, we are continuously developing our tool technology - for example, through innovative solutions such as our PUR sprue cutter, which efficiently reduces material usage and thus contributes to more economical production.
Your challenge becomes our challenge. We support you with sophisticated tool technology - precise, robust, and tailored to your process.
